Fashion Under The Hammer

Daphne Guinness decided to have a little wardrobe clear out, and when Daphne Guinness decides to sell a few things it's a major event at Christie's rather than a few hours spent on Ebay. The auction included items by Christian Lacroix, Christopher Kane, Noritaka Tatehana and of course Alexander McQueen. The items were available for public viewing but unfortunately I was unable to visit because I've been so busy with my styling job. I did happen to pass Christie's on the way to a meeting though and snapped the above picture. The proceeds of the auction are being donated to the Isabella Blow Foundation which will support the British fashion industry and young fashion and art talent. The auction raised almost half a million pounds, substantially more than the auctioneers estimate, but with Guinness' name attached the figure is unsurprising. Works by Mario Testino, Christian Lacroix and Alexander McQueen commanded record breaking bids with an empire-line gown by McQueen fetching £85,250.  The Telegraph has reported the exciting news that Isabella Blow's wardrobe which Daphne bought in it's entirety, will go on a world tour starting in Central St. Martins next year.
